ELKINS — A large number of guests enjoyed many different varieties of food prepared by students from the Highland Adventist School during the school’s annual International Food Fair held last month at the Holiday Inn Express in downtown Elkins.
Students from the school teamed up and created food from 15 different international cultures at the event. After researching their selected countries, students designed informational posters for the fair that detailed each culture’s food.
Students decorated serving tables for the event and dressed in attire from their selected countries.
“Our 2024 International Foot Fair was a huge success,” said Highland Adventist teacher and event planner Stacy Blanzy. “Our students develop skills through their participation in the fair. They research different cultures, learn culinary procedures, and practice persuasive conversation while talking with their customers. Our Food Fair is a lot more than just a social studies project for our students.”
The International Food Fair has been an annual event at the Highland Adventist School for over 20 years. Some of the countries represented at the food fair fundraiser included Brazil, Australia, Mexico, Korea and India.
“We would like to express appreciation to Elkins Holiday Inn Express manager Craig Fortney for hosting the event,” said Blanzy.
