Elections happened this week in Barbour County and around the state. Congratulations to all the leaders and good luck in November.
Congratulations to the Philip Barbour graduating class of 2024! Commencement ceremonies were held on Friday, May 17. Good luck in all of your future endeavors.
There will be an end of school skate party at Skatezone on Sunday, May 19 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. This is sponsored by the Haven of Hope Worship Center. Sounds like a fun time for all!
The Belington Board of Parks will hold election of new board members and officers on May 23 at 7 p.m. at the Belington Civic Center. Two seats will be open. Anyone interested is invited to attend the meeting.
Attention Barbour County girls, ages newborn to 14! You have the opportunity to become the first ever Miss Barbour County Rodeo Queen. Many titles will be awarded.
Competition will take place on June 2 in the auditorium at Battler’s Knob at 3 p.m. Deadline for entry has been extended to May 24. For more information, contact 304-692-8200.
Last day of instruction for students in Barbour County schools will be May 24. Have a safe and fun summer.
Appalachian Thunder football will be playing against Steel City Bobcats on May 25 at their home field in Philippi. Kickoff is at 4 p.m.
May 25, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., the Belington Volunteer Fire Department will be having a road stop in town to “fill the boot” to raise money for the department. So if you see a fireman standing in the road, support them. You never know when you might need their help.
The Belington Volunteer Fire Department will be having a chicken burn on May 26. Chicken should be coming off the grill at noon. The menu will be 1/2 chicken, baked beans, coleslaw, cookie and water. Only 400 chicken halves will be made, so be there early to get it before it’s gone!
Philippi City Pool will be open for the season on May 27. Summer time is truly upon us!
VFW Post 410 is having a car show at the VFW park in Belington on May 27. Registration is from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The event will run until 4 p.m. At this time, there will be numerous prizes and trophies. Come on out to see some cool cars and have a great time.
There will be a food preservation class at the Garden Market in Philippi, May 28-29 from 1-4 p.m. Come out and learn the basics of home canning and the science behind it. Home canning can be fun and rewarding, but it must be done in a manner that the food is safe to eat. Cost is $10 and you can register by calling 304-457-3254.
Mikey Hart Memorial Fund will be having a corn hole tournament and chicken burn on June 1 at the Barbour Quick Care parking lot in Belington. Registration is at 10 a.m., with the tournament beginning at 11 a.m.
Gather your junk… I mean, your unwanted treasures and get ready for Belington’s city yard sale that will take place on June 8. To get your yard on the map, call City Hall at 304-823-1611.
