Hello from Barbour County!
This Saturday, Sept. 14, the doors open at 10 a.m. at the Belington Volunteer Fire Department for their annual Fall Bash. Tickets are sold out, but if you didn’t get one, don’t worry! For a price at the door, you can get in, enjoy an awesome meal from Smoke Holler BBQ and participate in floor games and extra prizes, not to mention fellowship with a great group of people. Thank you to all the men and women who help keep us all safe!
Also today, Annie’s Smiles will be hosting their Basket Bingo at the Taj Mo Hall in Philippi. Doors open at 11 a.m. and they are asking for a donation. Bingo starts at noon.
Lots going on today! At 10 a.m. there will be a suicide awareness walk at the Barbour County courthouse in Philippi. Walk with us “out of the darkness” and help raise awareness for suicide prevention.
Barbour County Youth Wrestling sign ups will be Sept. 16 beginning at 6 pm at the Barbour County Fairgrounds. This is open to boys and girls ages 5-13. There is a fee with a multiple child discount.
There will be a karaoke contest in Belington town square on Sept. 20 beginning at 6 pm. There is an entry fee. Come on out and see who takes home the prize.
Make another stop in Belington on Sept. 21 for Old Fashioned Days. Beginning at 10 a.m., you can enjoy all things old fashioned such as a horse and buggy ride, car and tractor show, cake walk, auction, music, parade, ice cream, apple butter making and more.
On Sept. 28, make a trip to our neighboring Tucker County in Davis for their 17th annual 2k/5k walk/run. The race begins at 11 a.m. This is a great event to raise money for local organizations. I’m sure the leaves will be beautiful on the scenic drive across the mountains too!
Barbour County Republican Executive Committee will be hosting a writing contest, “Why Are Elections Important?” There will be two age groups with first, second and third place monetary prizes. For more information, contact Lisa at 304-591-2260. Deadline is Oct. 15.
